Oxford’s Primary Years Programme

The Primary Years Programme, commonly referred to as the PYP, has been designed as a framework that provides academic challenge and develops the life skills of our students pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. 

These years are a critical period in the development for our students. Success in school is closely related to personal, social and emotional well-being.  At a time when students are establishing their identity and building their self-esteem, the PYP offers students opportunities to develop their potential, to explore their own learning preferences, to take appropriate risks, and to reflect on, and develop, a strong sense of personal identity.

Oxford seeks to connect content through the use of meaningful concepts to help students make connections, form new understandings, and transfer what they’ve learned to new situations.

Oxford educators have continued to focus on how best to meet the needs of our students, who are confronted with a vast and often bewildering array of choices in a complex and rapidly changing world.  As a result, members of the Oxford Community benefit from the communicators, leaders, and risk-takers that develop out of the PYP.  Our ultimate goal is to become world-class citizens that move through life living the through the Learner Profile and becoming lifetime learners.
