JOINED OXFORD COMMUNITY SCHOOLS

August 2018

I began my teaching career in 2004 when I completed my student teaching internship at Oxford Middle School. From there, I accepted a temporary position with the Rochester Community Schools (where I taught ceramics at Rochester and Rochester Adams HS), before heading out west to accept a position with the Peoria Unified School District in Peoria, Arizona.

In 2016 I was honored to be recognized as a Pride of Peoria Teacher of the Year recipient, which is awarded to the top 1% of the district's 3500 teachers each year. For 10 wonderful years, I taught K-8 art at Apache Elementary before choosing to leave to teach ceramics at Raymond S. Kellis High School. While at RSK, I served as a girls softball coach and was the co-sponsor of our school's Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA) club. After 12 years with PUSD, we moved back home to Michigan; and was blessed to have the opportunity to return to the district where my career got it's start.

In 2018, I accepted a position as one of our district's elementary art teachers. The following school year, my dream teaching job - teaching ceramics and sculpture at Oxford High School - became available. I happily accepted the position for the fall of 2019 where I continue today.

As an educator, I strive to provide my students with the tools necessary to access their inherent creativity. I truly believe that creativity resides in us all, and my job is to teach students how to take their ideas from their mind and manifest them into the reality of a three dimensional space.

I am happily married to an amazing elementary school teacher and we live in Oxford with our 3 dogs and 3 cats. In my free time, I enjoy gaming, home improvement projects, and adding to my childhood LEGO collection.
