Statement from the Board

Dear Oxford School Community,

Tonight, the Oxford Community Schools Board of Education voted to accept the resignation of Superintendent Mr. Kenneth Weaver. Mr. Weaver has spent over 19 years serving the Oxford Community Schools in various roles that directly supported our students, our staff, and our school community. There are few words that meet the level of gratitude we have for Mr. Weaver for that service, for his leadership, and for his enduring advocacy for our schools, we want to wish him and his family the best as he takes the necessary time to care for himself and his family.

To ensure a smooth, seamless, and supportive transition the board has voted to appoint Mrs. Anita Qonja-Collins, assistant superintendent of elementary instruction, as the acting interim superintendent effective immediately. Mrs. Qonja-Collins has worked with Oxford Community Schools since 2018 and has vast experience working as a teacher and as an administrator prior to coming to Oxford. The Board is committed to supporting Mrs. Qonja-Collins throughout the transition, so she can focus on supporting our students, our staff and our school community while we work find a permanent interim superintendent and permanent superintendent.

In that regard, the Board has voted to engage a professional search firm to help identify a permanent interim superintendent who will support our school community as we undergo the process of finding a permanent superintendent. Keeping our students safe while they continue to receive a world class education always remains our top upmost priorities, and the board will continue to support our amazing students, staff, families, and community through these changes.
