January 13, Update in OCHD COVID Guidance

Dear Wildcat Nation,

Oakland County Health Division (OCHD), updated their COVID guidance yesterday, January 11, 2022.  The timeline for isolation for individuals who test positive for COVID or who are quarantined due to exposure is now reduced to five days per the OCHD. Therefore, any student or staff member who tests positive for COVID will now only need to isolate for five days after symptom onset or test date, as long as symptoms are improving and they have been fever-free for 24 hours with no medication. According to the OCHD, day one of isolation is the first day AFTER symptom onset or test date. Individuals may return to school on day six. Anyone unable to mask, such as our youngest OELC children or students with mask exemptions, must still isolate for ten days.

Please see the OCHD infographic for more details.

OCHD recommends that any completely vaccinated individual does not need to quarantine. They may remain in school and monitor for symptoms for 10 days. Individuals who are not fully vaccinated or have not received any vaccines for COVID should quarantine for five days and consider testing on day five before returning to school. If your child needs to quarantine, please notify the front office of your child’s school.

If your child tests positive for COVID please notify your child’s school. The district is still required to report positive cases to the OCHD. We will begin publishing cases on our website under the COVID tab beginning next week.

These changes are effective immediately, so any students who are currently out in isolation or quarantine may return if they have satisfied the requirements as detailed above.
