March 21, Introduction Letter from Supt. Weaver

Dear Wildcat Students and Families,

I am honored to have been chosen as the next superintendent of Oxford Community Schools.  I am grateful for the trust of our school board and school community in this sacred responsibility at such a significant and crucial time. Also, I would like to recognize Mr. Throne for building a strong foundation on which our school community will rise up.

I am deeply vested in the Oxford Community and its future. I have worked in the Oxford Schools District for 18 years serving as an assistant principal, as a principal, and as an assistant superintendent. My life’s work has been devoted to the education and support of children. In addition, my wife and I have chosen this community to raise our family.  We have two children who are current students at Oxford High School as well as two children who are recent Wildcat graduates.

My focus as your new superintendent will be supporting all students with reclaiming their future while maintaining a safe and secure school culture. I’ve seen first-hand that our students need a variety of educational and emotional supports to be successful.  Together, we can partner to build on a great tradition while establishing a “new normal” for advancing our mission of providing a world-class education for students. Your support is essential as we continue moving forward.  I’ve seen the power that our school community has in changing the lives of our students. I’ve been humbled and inspired by the amazing strength, spirit of generosity, and perseverance of Oxford.

As your superintendent, I will create a three-year plan to move our school district forward with input from our school community. Student, parent, and staff engagement is important to the success of any plan. Using your input, our team will reflect on what Oxford Community Schools is today and what it can become. We will maintain our strong commitment to the physical and emotional safety for all our staff and students and encourage a culture of compassion, understanding, and respect. We will work together to strengthen our academic and mental health supports. In addition, staff will continue to build strong and impactful relationships with their students, and administrators will continue to work with parents to build a network of care for all families.

All of us have been deeply affected by the tragedy of November 30. My heart goes out to the families who have lost their loved ones and to those who are still healing. I love this community and I am proud to be a Wildcat. As we continue to lift each other up, we will only strengthen our bond that cannot be shaken. In the coming weeks, we will communicate with you opportunities for engaging the community in our planning.

Sincerely,

Ken Weaver
Superintendent
Oxford Community Schools
