Nov. 3 District Communication

Good afternoon, Wildcat Nation,

We want to give you a few safety reminders and updates regarding our COVID-19 procedures. As we become aware of cases, we will continue to promptly notify families and staff and post those correspondences on our website. At the secondary level administration sends case notifications to the entire building. At the elementary level notifications are sent to the affected classroom (including childcare and GSRP). OVA sends notifications to any affected person.

According to the current MDHHS health order: “Public Notice does not replace the need for direct notification to persons who were, or are suspected to have been, a Close Contact of School Associated Case(s); such notice is the responsibility of the local health department.” We will continue to work in close partnership with OCHD as they carry out this responsibility moving forward.

Yesterday the CDC approved the Pfizer pediatric vaccine for children ages 5 -11. The OCHD has reached out to us and requested to host vaccine clinics in a district building. This is not an Oxford-sponsored event and we are not making any medical recommendations to our families on this topic. The decision to vaccinate is between parents and medical providers.  As a service to our community, any parent who is interested in having their child(ren) age5-18 vaccinated, the OCHD will be at Oxford Middle School to administer the vaccine on November 19 and December 10 from 4 pm – 7:30 pm.  Please note, no vaccine activities will take place during the school day and a parent is required to be present to authorize the vaccine. Appointments are strongly recommended and can be made at Oaklandcountyvaccine.com  or by calling 1-800-848-5533. Participation is completely voluntary and the COVID vaccine is not required to attend school.

Lastly, we want to make you aware of recent action taken by our school board. On October 19, the Board passed a resolution with regard to the constitutional conflict between SB82 and the current county mask mandate. While they had hoped for guidance to be issued by last week, they have yet to receive any correspondence from the Attorney General at this time. In the absence of guidance, the Board will continue with the next steps outlined in the resolution.

Have a great week and thank you for your attention,

Oxford Community Schools
