September 17, Weekly District COVID Update

Good afternoon, Wildcats!

We have had another successful week of in-person learning in Oxford Schools!

We continue to receive valuable feedback from our community regarding the Oakland County Health Division’s mask mandate for schools. In recent days, many members of our community have expressed concerns related to the detrimental impact mask-wearing has had on their children. These reports range from headaches, increased blood pressure, difficulty breathing, low blood oxygen levels, stress, anxiety, depression, and an inability to stay engaged in classroom learning. The district recognizes and shares these concerns about students’ health and wellness.

It has been communicated to us that the intention of the OCHD mask mandate was to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and to keep students learning in person.  While we have achieved a successful start to the school year on this front, we must continue to advocate for the needs of all students which includes sharing the above-mentioned concerns with OCHD. It is imperative that the health division has an awareness of all student health and wellness issues when considering the continuation or alteration of any mandates affecting our students.

We will continue to engage our local health professionals to do the best we can for students in partnership with our families. We appreciate your support as we continue to navigate these difficult circumstances together.
