Announcement of Interim Superintendent

Dear Oxford Schools Community,

Tonight, December 13, 2022, the Board of Education voted to accept Dr. Vickie Markavitch to serve as the interim superintendent for the Oxford Community Schools District.

Dr. Markavitch comes to Oxford with extensive and diverse work experience in K-12 education.  Dr. Markavitch served as the superintendent of Oakland County Schools for eleven years supporting all Oakland County public school districts, public academies and private schools that educate the 230,000 students in our county.  After finishing that role, she continued on as an educational consultant for five years.  Prior to the Oakland County Schools superintendency, she served as the superintendent for three different school districts: Penn-Harris-Madison in Indiana, Niles Township High School District outside of Chicago, IL, and Skokie School District in Illinois.

Dr. Markavitch has enjoyed a rich educational career that also included positions as principal, executive director of secondary instruction and special programs, special education teacher, learning disabilities consultant and reading coordinator.  She also worked as the educational consultant to Pontiac Public Schools during their state agreements for financial and academic recovery.

Dr. Markavitch received her Ph.D. in Educational Administration from Michigan State University, her M.A. in Special Education from Western Michigan University, and her B.A. in Elementary/Secondary Special Education from Michigan State University.

We welcome Dr. Markavitch with her vast experience in education and leadership to our Wildcat community. She will begin with Oxford Community Schools on January 9, 2023.  Additionally, we would like to thank assistant superintendent of elementary instruction Anita Qonja-Collins for serving as the acting interim superintendent while the search for the permanent interim superintendent was conducted.
