August 26, Great Start to 2022-23 School Year

Dear Wildcat Nation,

I wanted to take a moment to congratulate our amazing students, staff, and families for a safe and successful kickoff to the 2022-2023 school year. It is truly inspiring to see the smiling faces of our students again on our campuses.

2022 graduate Kylie Ossege spoke to our staff during the Staff Welcome Back the day before students returned with an inspirational and encouraging message. Her words have become our theme for the year – Radiate and Shine! Our first day back was tremendous with 98% daily attendance across our buildings. The resilience, pride, and heart of our Wildcat community has never been more evident.

Yesterday, many of our younger Wildcats could be seen running into the arms of their teachers upon their arrival, and our high school students eagerly greeting their teachers. Our seniors met at the high school parking lot to watch the sunrise together for the new leadership-led event, “Senior Sunrise.”  The day culminated with our first football game of the season against Romeo High School. While we fell short, our Wildcats demonstrated grit and determination in a true celebration of our community.

Our successful return to school was several weeks in the making, starting with our well-attended community telephone townhall, during which hundreds of parents and guardians called in to ask questions and share perspectives and ideas. We also had about 70 Oxford High School parents/guardians and students attend our OHS safety presentation and Evolv demonstration last Monday evening.

As the new school year gets underway, we will provide regular updates to our community on any new safety and security protocols, news from our individual schools, special events and new learning opportunities to prepare our students for success. You can also keep up to date on all the latest Oxford Community Schools communications on our website, oxfordschools.org.

My door is always open to you. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly at any time to provide feedback, ask questions or just talk about how things are going. And once again, I’d like to say thank you to our amazing students, staff, and families for making our first day back to school a huge success. We look forward to maintaining this momentum in the days ahead.

As always, together we are OxfordStrOng,

Ken Weaver
