January 9, Sad News

Dear Oxford Schools Community,

It is with deep sadness we share with you that one of our Oxford Virtual Academy students has passed away. Although this child did not reside within our county, we know it may impact our learners here in Oxford.  Our sincere sympathies, thoughts, and prayers go out to the family and all of those affected.

Please know, our OVA TECIP (Traumatic Event Crisis Intervention Plan) team is preparing support for our OVA students and families.  Additionally, counselors and support staff are available for virtual and seated students throughout the district.  The All for Oxford Resiliency Center also has mental health supports available to any students, staff, or family members in need, and their 24/7 crisis helpline number is 248-653-5525. Furthermore, the suicide helpline can be reached simply by dialing 988, and Oakland County Health Network has an Oakland County Youth Mobile Crisis team which can be reached at 877-800-1650.

Sincerely,
Dr. Vickie L. Markavitch
Interim Superintendent
Oxford Community Schools
