June 29, Air Quality Alert

Dear Oxford Families,

We wanted to share with you an update on the current air quality in Oxford due to the Canadian wildfires. The air quality is at 152 AQI for PM 2.5 which is deemed unhealthy for everyone according to the EPA and the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy.

The current recommendations for children, teens, people with heart or lung disease and older adults to reduce exposure and harm of the pollutants are to:

  • Avoid strenuous activities.
  • Keep outdoor activities short.
  • Consider moving physical activities indoors or rescheduling them.

The current recommendation for everyone else is:

  • Choose less strenuous activities (like walking instead of running) so you don’t breathe as hard.
  • Shorten the amount of time you are active outdoors.
  • Be active outdoors when air quality is better.

For the health and safety of our students who are on any of our campuses today, we have moved all outdoor activities and athletic practices inside.
