June 8, School Board Seat Vacancy

Dear Oxford Community Schools Families,

After over a decade of dedicated service on the Oxford Community Schools Board of Education, current School Board President Dan D’Alessandro will be resigning as of July 1, 2023.  Mr. D’Alessandro will be moving outside of the district boundaries and, thereby, will no longer be eligible to serve on the OCS School Board.    We are very appreciative for his extensive years of service and commitment to the students and staff of the Oxford Community Schools District.

As of July 1, 2023, Vice President Heather Shafer will become the acting president. Moving forward, by law and according to the School Board Policy 0142.5 on board vacancies, the school board has 30 days to appoint a qualified individual from the community to fulfill the remainder of the term being vacated, which in this situation is December 31, 2024.

The policy states:

  1. The Board shall seek qualified and interested candidates from the community through the news media, word of mouth, and contacts with appropriate organizations.
  2. All applicants are to submit a notice of their interest and application, in writing, to the Superintendent. (mail or deliver to Superintendent Markavitch, 10 N. Washington St. Oxford, MI 48371)
  3. The Board may interview all interested candidates to ascertain their qualifications.

Appointment by the Board to fill a vacancy shall be by majority vote of the full Board.
