Good Evening, Oxford Families!
Teacher Appreciation Week is coming up, and we’d love your help recognizing our incredible Oxford Schools staff!
Please take a moment to share a message, and optionally a photo, to recognize a current teacher, counselor, bus driver, secretary, food service worker, administrator, paraprofessional, or other school staff member who has made a difference for your student. You’ll need to be logged in with a Google account to complete this Staff Appreciation Submission Form.
We’d love to receive submissions by Thursday, April 30, so we can begin sharing the following week. We can’t guarantee that we’ll be able to share every response we receive, but we will do our best to include as many messages as possible! We will select submissions throughout the week to feature on our district website and social media channels, and we’ll also send all the messages directly to the staff member being recognized. A photo of your student with the staff member is welcome but not required; any photo that helps personalize your message is great!
Have questions or want to submit outside the form? Send an email to socialmedia@oxfordschools.org and we'll help you out.
Another opportunity to spotlight our incredible teachers is through the Michigan Teacher Appreciation Video Project. Click the link for more information on how to get involved and share your message of appreciation!
Thanks for helping us show our team how much they’re appreciated!
Sincerely,
Oxford Community Schools
Mrs. Miconi’s students at OES and DA schools celebrated Black History Month by learning about influential musicians who helped shape American music and culture. Through listening and discussion, they explored the lives and contributions of these artists and how their music inspired change and brought people together!
Here’s who they learned about and the activities they participated in:
Scott Joplin – Students performed a rhythmic cup game while listening to Maple Leaf Rag, experiencing the steady beat and energy of ragtime music.
Louis Armstrong – Students drew pictures showing what the world looks like through their eyes, inspired by Armstrong’s message of hope and perspective.
Bob Marley – Grades 3–5 wrote their own next line after One Love (“One Love, One Heart”), second grade created a kindness chain, and kindergarten students kept a steady beat with egg shakers.
Stevie Wonder – Students danced and moved to the joyful rhythms of Sir Duke 🎶

Celebrating March is Reading Month with a fun twist in Mrs. Hulslander’s 4th grade classroom at OES! 📚 Mystery readers have been stopping by, and students love using clues to guess if the surprise guest might be their parent.
There are still a couple of weeks left... and many more mystery readers to come!

On March 4, Oxford High School joined 11 other IB schools in Michigan and more than 300 IB students at the Lansing State Capitol to speak with state representatives about the importance of making the process for earning college credit for IB scores at postsecondary institutions more consistent. Students also had the opportunity to watch floor votes in both the Senate and the House of Representatives on the resolution. The day was a great success and a meaningful opportunity for students to have their voices heard and engage in civic advocacy!

Our school board meeting on Tuesday included some special guest presenters! First grade authors from Mrs. Don’s class at Daniel Axford Elementary stopped by to share the nonfiction animal books they’ve been writing. Their illustrations and presentations were impressive, and it was fun for the board to hear directly from our young learners. Great job, Alex, Alieena, Gabe, Harmonee, and Nate! 🐾📚👏

You may see reports about an active law enforcement situation in West Bloomfield Township, approximately 30 miles south of Oxford. Authorities in that area have asked local schools and businesses in that area to shelter in place while they work to resolve the situation.
At this time, there is no threat to the safety of our students or staff, and all Oxford Community Schools buildings are operating as normal.
We remain in communication with local law enforcement and will continue monitoring the situation. If anything changes that would require one of our emergency response protocols, we will share that information with families.
Thank you for your continued support.
