When many people hear the word “millage,” they think of additional or extra projects. In Michigan, operating millages are a standard part of school funding and help support the day-to-day operations of school districts. Oxford Community Schools currently receives this funding, which helps support transportation, athletics and extracurricular activities, classroom resources, student support services, and academic programming.

Without continued operating millage funding, Oxford Community Schools would need to make approximately $7 million in annual reductions across the district. This video illustrates some of the financial realities the district would face without this funding.

Election Day is August 4, 2026.

Lakeville DK students are finding their rhythm! 🎶

Our young musicians recently created their very first rhythm compositions using quarter notes and rests. After working hard on their creations, students partnered up to share their rhythms before confidently performing for the entire class!

Last night, we had the opportunity to honor this year’s Oxford Community Schools retirees during the Board of Education meeting, with a small reception beforehand to celebrate their years of service and dedication.

Each of these individuals has made a lasting impact on our students, staff, and school community. We are grateful for all they have given to OCS and wish them the very best in this next chapter. 💙💛

We also want to give a big thank you to Violet Procunier, one of our OVA graduates, who beautifully sang the national anthem for our celebration!

Our OES third graders officially wrapped up their character study reading unit, and they celebrated in the best way possible — with a Winn-Dixie-inspired party!

Our amazing students got to experience the story firsthand with book-inspired decorations and a menu straight from the pages. From Littmus Lozenges to egg salad sandwiches and Dump Punch, it was the perfect way to reward all of their hard work.

To top off the celebration, they cozied up to watch the movie adaptation, comparing how their favorite characters jumped from the page to the big screen!

Looking back to last month, our Diploma Program English seniors in Ms. Carman's class took a field trip to the Detroit Institute of Arts!

At the DIA, students participated in a guided tour where they were encouraged to think critically about the meaning of various art pieces throughout the galleries, connecting the subjects, concepts, and themes explored in the artwork to the literature they have read in class. The thoughts students shared were insightful and impressive—it was a wonderful trip!

Oxford proudly took 20 outstanding students to compete at the Business Professionals of America Nationals, and they represented our chapter with excellence!

Our Financial Analyst Team, Katelyn Barlow, Isla Chambers, Lainey Speck, and Teagan Spurlock, earned an impressive 4th place in the nation, demonstrating exceptional teamwork and analytical skills.

In individual events, Dominic Bigelow placed 10th nationally in Information Technology Concepts, a remarkable achievement in a highly competitive field.

We also want to recognize Chapter President Alex De La Fuente, whose enthusiasm and record-breaking collection of trading pins made him a standout presence throughout the conference.

We are incredibly proud of every student who competed, supported their teammates, and represented Oxford with integrity. The momentum is strong, and we are already looking forward to Nationals in Colorado next year!

The Oxford Elementary School track/walking path will be closed to the public May 28–30 while the deteriorating rubberized surface is removed from the asphalt path underneath.

Once the work is complete, the asphalt walking path will reopen for community use. At this time, resurfacing the area as a rubberized track is not part of the district’s planned facilities priorities or budget.

We appreciate everyone’s patience during the temporary closure.

Big congratulations to our Oxford students recognized at the 58th Annual Daft Film Festival at the Detroit Institute of Arts!

This year’s festival was record-breaking, drawing 466 entries from K–12 students across the state. The Best-in-Show winners had their films screened on the festival’s main stage, were recognized during the awards ceremony, received a trophy, and were invited to an exclusive mingling session with professional filmmakers and industry leaders.

Out of 466 entries from students across Michigan, Wesley Pete earned Best-in-Show honors for the second time, and Blake Myer received Best-in-Show in the Documentary category along with a special award from the Michigan Maritime Museum.

We are so proud of their creativity, talent, and hard work. Their accomplishments are a testament to the power of student creativity in our schools!
