The August 4 election will be here before we know it. Oxford Community Schools has an important Operating Millage proposal on the ballot. Below are some helpful links to ensure you’re ready to vote:

You’re also invited to join us for Coffee & Conversation tomorrow, Thursday, 6/18 from 9:00–10:00 a.m. at the Seymour Lake Park Senior Activity Center (2795 Seymour Lake Rd.). This is an opportunity to learn more about the millage and ask questions in an informal setting.

How much funding does the millage provide? Approximately $7 million each year.

This evening’s board of education meeting will be live-streamed courtesy of OCTV and can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/@OCTVMichigan. For those attending the meeting in person, the meeting location is at Oxford Elementary School. This regular board meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m.

A "yes" vote on this millage will not raise property taxes on your home or primary residence. This millage only applies to non-homestead properties like commercial/rental properties, and second homes.

Will it raise taxes on my home? No. There will be no tax increase on a primary residence.

This is not a brand new tax for our local businesses who are already paying an operating millage right now. This proposal would restore the full 18 mill operating millage last passed by Oxford voters in 2016 (from the current rate of 17.3155 mills) and renew it for ten more years.

Will this create a new tax? No. Local businesses are already paying an operating millage.

An operating millage and a bond are very different things. Bonds are used to fund big capital projects like constructing or renovating buildings. Operating millages pay for the routine, daily costs inside those buildings like utility bills, staff, and learning supplies.

Is this the same as a bond? No, bonds typically fund larger projects or new buildings; this is for daily expenses.

Oxford Community Schools uses this millage money to cover our everyday basic operating expenses across the entire school district. It pays for critical day-to-day things like running school buses, keeping the classroom lights on, paying our staff, and buying student supplies.

What does this millage fund? Everyday expenses like transportation, staffing, utilities, supplies, etc.

Supporting our youngest learners from the very beginning!

Our Occupational Therapy team works with children from the very beginning in our Birth-to-3 program and special education preschool programs, helping them develop the skills they need to learn and grow! These services are primarily provided through the Oxford Early Learning Center and support students long before they enter our DK-12 classrooms.

Mrs. Slingerland is all smiles as she works and learns alongside some of her students!

As another school year comes to a close, we wish all of our OCS families a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable summer!

Before summer schedules take over, we have one request: please make a plan to participate in the August 4 election. This is an important vote for our district and community, and summer elections often see lower voter turnout.

If you expect to be out of town on Election Day, requesting an absentee ballot is quick and easy through the Michigan Voter Information Center online. Your ballot will be mailed to you in late June.

Today, the team gathered to celebrate the end of another successful school year and recognize retiring staff members. With prime rib, cake, and good company, it was a great opportunity to reflect on the year and celebrate those who have made a lasting impact on our district!

OMS Metal Benders FTC Team #14739 had an amazing day at the Midland Spring Robotics Competition last weekend. Not only were they selected for the #2 alliance in the finals, but they also took home first place for the Control Award. The Metal Benders have also been invited to participate in an international FIRST Robotics Competition, the Michiana Premier Event, in June.

Congratulations to Oxford High School Class of 2026 Salutatorian, Sriya Joshi! 🎓

As Salutatorian, Sriya earned one of the highest academic honors in the Class of 2026, demonstrating exceptional dedication, intellectual curiosity, and academic excellence throughout her high school career.

Sriya achieved an outstanding 4.148 GPA while taking on numerous leadership roles, including President of Science National Honor Society, Co-President and Co-Founder of White Coat Beginners Society, President of Choir Leadership, and Vice President of Tri-M Music Honor Society. Her impressive accomplishments include multiple HOSA regional and state finalist recognitions, participation at the international level, the 2026 Oxford-Addison Youth Assistance Youth Recognition Award, and a second-place research presentation award at the Junior Science and Humanities Symposium.

Beyond the classroom, Sriya has dedicated her time to serving her community through medical research assistantships, library programs, community gardening, mentoring initiatives, and music programs for senior citizens.

This fall, Sriya will attend the Honors Program at the University of Michigan College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, where she plans to study Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology on the pre-med track.

Congratulations to Oxford High School Class of 2026 Salutatorian, Carter Jacobsen! 🎓 As Salutatorian, Carter earned one of the highest academic honors in the Class of 2026, demonstrating exceptional dedication, determination, and excellence throughout his high school career. Carter achieved an impressive 4.141 GPA while balancing a rigorous academic schedule as an IB Diploma Candidate and excelling in athletics. His accomplishments include being a three-time Academic All-State Basketball honoree, a three-time Cross Country State Qualifier, an OAA White League Basketball Champion, and a District Champion and Wildcat Award recipient. Beyond the classroom and competition, Carter has made a positive impact through his service as a Basketball Camp Counselor, Cross Country Camp Counselor, and mentor in the 42 Strong Mentorship Program. As Valedictorian, Jackson earned the highest academic distinction in the Class of 2026, a testament to his exceptional dedication, perseverance, and commitment to excellence throughout his high school career.

Jackson achieved an outstanding 4.276 GPA while actively participating in Tennis, National Honor Society, and Math National Honor Society.

This fall, Jackson will attend Indiana University, where he plans to study Finance and Entrepreneurship.
