Dear Oxford Community,

You’re invited to join us on Tuesday, November 18, at 6:00 p.m. at Leonard Elementary for two brief presentations:

Addison Township Library: Hear about the library’s newest programs, resources, and services they provide to our community.

New Center-Based Program: Learn about the proposed ASD Center-Based program in Oxford through a partnership with Oakland Schools. The presentation will cover:

  • The application process that secures county funding to build the new center facility

  • The specifics of the proposed location and building design

  • The plan for how this partnership ensures our students receive stable, high-quality programming that is customized to individual student needs for optimal support

  • The tuition-based model that ensures operational costs are shared with other districts

This program would be funded through Oakland Schools, not our district, and could provide significant benefits for students within Oxford and the surrounding areas.

This event will be held in a Community of the Whole session, providing a more informal setting to meet the Board of Education and district administrators, ask questions, and share your thoughts before the board meeting.

When: Tuesday, November 18, 6:00 p.m.

Where: Leonard Elementary (335 E. Elmwood, Leonard, MI 48367)

We hope you’ll join us to learn more and engage in conversation!

Tomorrow is Veterans Day, and to recognize and honor those who have sacrificed so much for our country, OVA hosted a special celebration this afternoon to thank our veterans for their service.

The program featured a choir performance of The National Anthem and America the Beautiful, along with a heartfelt PowerPoint presentation and moving poems.

We were also honored to welcome two keynote speakers, both veterans, who shared their personal stories of service and reflected on the strength and impact of military life.

A special thank-you to LOFT for generously providing catering for the event.

We extend our deepest gratitude to all for their courage, dedication, and sacrifice in serving our nation. 🇺🇸🤍

On October 30, Clear Lake Elementary’s fifth-grade Spanish classes visited the Detroit Institute of Arts and Mexicantown! Students explored the DIA’s Day of the Dead ofrendas and stopped by La Gloria Bakery to sample authentic treats while conversing with shop owners in Spanish. It was a day full of learning, courage, and cultural connection!

Dear Oxford Community Schools Families,

Thank you to everyone who took the time to vote in yesterday’s election. While the results were not what we had hoped for, we are grateful for the engagement and care our community shows for our schools and students.

As a district, we will take time to carefully review feedback, evaluate our next steps, and continue to keep families informed about our plans. Our commitment to providing high-quality educational experiences remains strong, though the election results will require us to adjust some additional priorities moving forward.

We encourage families to stay informed and engaged as we review next steps and plan for the future. Information about upcoming opportunities to provide input will be shared on our website and through district communications. We appreciate your continued partnership and commitment to Oxford Community Schools.

With gratitude,
Dr. Tonya Milligan
Superintendent

Bonds are large loans, often hundreds of millions of dollars, used for major construction projects like new schools or additions.

A Sinking Fund is a smaller pay-as-you-go millage that supports ongoing maintenance, repairs, safety upgrades, and technology improvements. It is not used for salaries or daily operations.

Sinking Fund vs. Bond: Bonds are large loans for new construction. The Sinking Fund is smaller and focuses on keeping busses, technology, and buildings safe and maintained.

Dear Oxford Community Schools Families,

We understand that some families may have concerns about food insecurity. For additional support if needed, we have compiled a list of local food assistance resources. You can access the full list on our website here: Food Assistance Resources.

We also want to remind families that every student is encouraged to eat a free breakfast and lunch at school each day to ensure they have access to nutritious meals.

If your family is in need and unable to access food, please reach out to a Family School Liaison (FSL) or any school staff member. We are here to help connect you with the right resources.

Sincerely,
Oxford Community Schools

Oxford Community Schools’ facilities are aging, with our elementary schools averaging 76 years old. Older buildings require ongoing maintenance, repairs, and safety upgrades to provide safe, effective learning environments.

The Sinking Fund is specifically designed to address these needs, funding building repairs, technology updates, transportation vehicles, and security improvements. This millage ensures our facilities remain safe, modern, and supportive for students while protecting classroom resources.
