May 26, Update on OCS Funding

Dear Oxford School Community,

We are pleased and relieved to share with you the house and the senate have worked together to provide funding relief to our district that now only needs the Governor’s final approval.  The proposed funding will compensate Oxford for the lost days of instruction and end school as previously scheduled without a loss of funding.  The bills also provide funding to support our continued recovery such as the cost of adding needed staff, mental health supports, security, and the previous restoration of the building.

We owe a debt of gratitude to so many who have worked to help us, including but not limited to, Senator Rosemary Bayer, Representative Pam Hornberger, Representative Jason Wentworth and Representative Donna Lasinski as well as the Michigan Education Association, Michigan Association of Superintendents and Administrators, the Michigan Association of School Boards, State Superintendent Dr. Rice, Oakland Schools and Oakland School Superintendent Wanda Cook-Robinson.

To all those in our school community who advocated for our district’s staff and students in this matter, please accept our sincere thanks!  We appreciate your support. Working together we are Oxford Strong.

With sincere gratitude,

Ken Weaver
Oxford Community Schools Superintendent
