Dear Oxford Community Schools Families,
Prior to the start of the school day today, February 1, 2023, Leonard Elementary School staff learned of a concerning comment that was made by a Leonard Elementary student to another student. Law enforcement was immediately notified, and Oakland County Sheriff’s Office quickly began an investigation. Although we cannot share further details with you due to the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the student who made the comment has been identified, they and their family are cooperating with law enforcement, and the child is not in school today.
Parents, please talk to your students and remind them that threatening comments of any kind are not acceptable and students who make them will face disciplinary measures in line with our school code of conduct. We ask that you reinforce with your students the severe consequences their words may carry. Thank you to our students and parents who reported the situation. Your partnership and diligence allowed it to be swiftly investigated and addressed. Please continue to encourage your students to utilize the Ok2Say anonymous reporting tool and/or reach out to law enforcement or school administration with concerning information. The OK2SAY app is available for iOS and Android devices or tips can be reported athttps://www.michigan.gov/ok2saywebsite as well.
We are sharing this with our entire school community to clear up any misinformation circulating. Please know, this is the only concern that has been reported in the district today.
Best Regards,
Dr. Vickie L. Markavitch
